Each S440 mounts directly to the racking rail beneath its associated module and connects to the module's junction box via two short MC4 input cables (4" positive and 4" negative). The optimizer continuously performs DC-to-DC conversion — converting the module's variable MPPT output voltage into a fixed contribution to the string's regulated target voltage — while communicating performance data to the inverter via PLC over the existing string wiring.

SafeDC™ Shutdown Sequence: When the SolarEdge inverter receives a shutdown command — from the AC disconnect, the grid-fault protection relay, an arc fault detection event, or the system's rapid shutdown button — it transmits a SafeDC shutdown signal to all optimizers in all connected strings via the PLC channel.
