Hybrid Inverters

A hybrid inverter (like the SolarEdge Home Hub) stays synchronized with the grid — it sells power back, charges batteries from solar, and islands during outages. An off-grid inverter/charger (like the Victron MultiPlus) creates its own grid from batteries and can accept generator or shore power as a charge source. Many Victron MultiPlus-II models now do both.

Match voltage to system size. Under 1,600W of inverter capacity, 12V is fine. Up to about 3,000W, 24V halves the current and cable size. Anything serious — whole-home backup, 3kW+ continuous — belongs on 48V. Every Victron model lists its battery voltage in the model number (e.g., 48/3000 = 48V, 3,000VA).

Yes — that's the core of the Victron architecture. Two MultiPlus units can be configured in parallel for double capacity, or in split-phase for 120/240V service; three make a three-phase system. SolarEdge hybrid inverters don't stack the same way — size those to the array from the start.

That's their defining feature. Hybrid and battery-based inverters with a charged battery bank switch to backup power automatically — Victron units transfer in under 20 milliseconds, fast enough that computers don't reboot. Grid-tie-only string inverters, by contrast, shut down during outages by code.

Units under 70 lbs ship standard parcel; larger inverter/chargers and multi-unit orders ship LTL freight. Every inverter carries its full manufacturer warranty — Victron covers 5 years, and SolarEdge offers 12 years extendable to 25.
