This SPOT 240W module converts sunlight into DC electricity using 60 interconnected polycrystalline silicon cells. When sunlight hits the cells, photons transfer energy to electrons in the semiconductor material and create an electric current. The module operates at a maximum power point around 29.8 volts and 8.06 amps under standard test conditions. A charge controller or grid tied inverter tracks this point to draw optimum power from the panel. Built in bypass diodes inside the junction box help limit power loss when some cells are shaded. The module can be installed in series strings and parallel strings to reach the voltage and current needed by the rest of the solar system. Once DC power leaves the panel, it flows through cabling to a charge controller, battery bank, or inverter, where it is managed and converted into usable AC or stored energy.
Light capture and DC generation: Low iron tempered glass allows more sunlight to reach the 60 multicrystalline cells while shielding them from impact. Each cell produces a small voltage when illuminated, and the cells are wired together to raise the overall module voltage. Under rated conditions the panel reaches 37.1 volts open circuit and 8.62 amps short circuit current.
Maximum power tracking and system integration: The module has a clearly defined voltage and current at maximum power, known as Vmpp and Impp. Modern MPPT charge controllers and inverters constantly adjust their operating point to stay near 29.8 volts and 8.06 amps. This tracking extracts the best possible energy from the panel as sunlight and temperature change through the day.
Protection, wiring, and energy delivery: EVA encapsulant, a composite backsheet, and an anodized aluminum frame secure the laminate and preserve electrical insulation up to 1000 volts. Three bypass diodes in the junction box help current flow around shaded cell strings, reducing hot spots and efficiency losses. A 4 mm² cable pair, each 750 millimeters long, connects the module to the rest of the system, delivering DC power to batteries, loads, or a grid connected inverter.
