How It Works

The Victron Centaur operates efficiently by utilizing a complex charging algorithm that ensures batteries are charged appropriately. Key components work together to maintain optimal conditions for charging, providing flexibility and reliability to users.

Charging Algorithm

The charger uses a three-stage IUoU characteristic. In bulk mode, it delivers maximum current until the battery reaches about 70% capacity. Then, it shifts to the absorption stage for precise charge management followed by a float phase to maintain battery levels.

Temperature Compensation Mechanism

This component plays a critical role in the charger's performance by adjusting output voltage based on temperature changes. A reduction of 2 mV/°C per cell ensures the batteries remain protected and charged correctly, improving overall safety and efficiency.

Cooling System

Equipped with a forced cooling system, the Victron Energy charger maintains optimal operating temperatures, ensuring high performance even during high load conditions. This current-controlled fan prevents overheating and extends the longevity of the product.

EG4 off-grid base kit, Happy with my purchase.

This is the first stage of my three planned purches. I got the eg4 inverter 6000 XP base kit with six 400 watt panels and the two server rack batteries. Did a little online research and followed the instructions and it got set up without any issues. Right now I'm just running it in my garage on a single outlet and have been running dual 750 watt water distillers with it. Once I get the second inverter and a bunch more panels and batteries, I plan on attaching it to my subpanel in my house that has my lights and outlets and appliances on it. Then I'll get a soft start for my AC and blower and run it on my main panel.
