MPN XR-10-168M | 168" (14 ft) Length | XR10 Heavy Rail | Clear Anodized Aluminum | UL 2703 Integrated Grounding | IBC & IRC Compliant | 20-Year Warranty
The IronRidge XR-10-168M is a 168-inch (14-foot) heavy-duty aluminum solar mounting rail from IronRidge's XR Series — the strongest roof-mount racking system in the residential and light commercial solar industry. Extruded from 6105-T5 aluminum alloy with a clear anodized mill finish, the XR10 rail profile is engineered to span up to 6-foot rafter spacings under moderate wind and snow load conditions, accommodating the majority of residential roof configurations without requiring additional mid-span support. The XR10's unique curved cross-section geometry maximizes the moment of inertia of the aluminum profile — delivering significantly greater bending stiffness per unit weight than flat or standard-profile rails used by competing racking systems. The integrated UL 2703 bonding and grounding system eliminates separate grounding hardware for module-to-rail and rail-to-structure connections, the system ships with pre-stamped engineering letters valid in most U.S. states, and IronRidge's free online design software generates a complete, AHJ-ready bill of materials and stamped engineering package in minutes. Backed by IronRidge's industry-leading 20-year product warranty.
Curved Rail Profile — Superior Strength-to-Weight Ratio: The XR10 rail's proprietary curved cross-section is engineered to maximize the second moment of area (moment of inertia) of the aluminum profile — the geometric property that determines bending stiffness. A curved or C-channel profile places more material away from the neutral axis than a flat bar of equal weight, resulting in a rail that resists wind uplift and snow load deflection far more effectively per pound of aluminum than conventional flat-profile or square-tube rails. This geometry is what allows IronRidge to substantiate the XR Series as the strongest roof-mount system in solar.
UL 2703 Integrated Grounding — No Separate Grounding Hardware: The XR10 rail carries UL 2703 listing for integrated module bonding and grounding, meaning the rail-to-module and rail-to-attachment electrical bonding path is established through the UL-listed module clamps and attachment hardware without any additional grounding lugs, wires, or WEEB washers required between modules. This eliminates a separate labor step on every module installed, reduces material cost, and ensures every connection in the grounding path is made with evaluated, listed hardware — satisfying NEC 2020 §690.43 module bonding requirements without supplemental equipment.
Pre-Stamped Engineering Letters — Fast AHJ Permit Approval: IronRidge provides pre-stamped (wet-signed) engineering letters from licensed Professional Engineers covering XR Series installations across most U.S. states — dramatically reducing permit submission time and eliminating the cost and delay of project-specific structural engineering for standard residential installations. Combined with IronRidge's free online design software, a complete permit package including the stamped engineering letter, site-specific load calculations, and full bill of materials can be generated and submitted to the AHJ within minutes of entering project parameters.
6105-T5 Aluminum — Corrosion-Resistant for Decades of Service: The XR10 rail is extruded from 6105-T5 aluminum alloy — a structural aluminum designation specifically developed for extruded shapes that require both high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. The clear anodized mill finish adds an additional hard oxide surface layer that seals the aluminum against salt-air, moisture, and UV exposure — ensuring the rail maintains its structural properties and appearance without painting, galvanizing, or re-coating throughout the 20-year warranty period and beyond.
IBC & IRC Compliant — Nationwide Code Coverage: The XR Series is designed and tested to comply with both the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Residential Code (IRC) — the two model building codes adopted in whole or in part by virtually every U.S. jurisdiction. IBC/IRC compliance means load calculations, deflection limits, and connection requirements all satisfy the governing structural code in the vast majority of U.S. permit jurisdictions without requiring code equivalence demonstrations or variance requests.
IronRidge Design Software — Complete BOM in Minutes: IronRidge's free online design software takes project-specific inputs — roof dimensions, rafter spacing, module layout, wind speed, ground snow load, and roof type — and outputs a complete, optimized bill of materials including rail quantities, attachment counts, hardware, and a site-specific stamped engineering package ready for AHJ submission. This end-to-end tool eliminates manual quantity takeoffs, reduces specification errors, and accelerates the sales-to-permit workflow for both new installers and high-volume commercial operations.
The XR-10-168M rail is one component in IronRidge's complete XR Series racking system. Roof attachments (FlashFoot2, Slotted L-Feet, or tile hook variants depending on roof type) are fastened to rafters at the required spacing, the XR10 rails slide onto the L-Feet and are clamped into position with the T-bolt and nut, and solar modules are secured to the rails using IronRidge UFO end clamps and mid clamps. The UL 2703 integrated grounding path is established through the clamp-to-module-frame and clamp-to-rail contact surfaces — eliminating separate grounding hardware at each module.
Attachment to Roof Structure: FlashFoot2 lag-bolt attachments (for composition shingle roofs) or Slotted L-Feet (for metal roofs and other substrates) are fastened directly into rafters at the spacing determined by the IronRidge design software's site-specific structural calculation. The slotted L-Foot design allows up to 1.5 inches of vertical height adjustment at each attachment point, accommodating minor rafter height variations and enabling the rail to be leveled across an entire array plane without shimming.
Rail Splicing for Long Runs: For array configurations requiring rail runs longer than 168 inches, IronRidge XR splice bars join two rail sections end-to-end at a structural support point — creating a continuous rail run of any length while maintaining the full structural capacity of the rail system. The 168-inch XR-10-168M length is optimized for typical residential portrait-layout arrays, minimizing cut waste while providing sufficient coverage for standard rafter spacings and module configurations.
Module Mounting with UFO Clamps: IronRidge UFO (Universal Frame Opening) end clamps and mid clamps attach to the XR10 rail's continuous T-slot channel, allowing clamps to be positioned anywhere along the rail length to accommodate any module frame width or row spacing without drilling. The UFO clamp's anodized aluminum construction and stainless steel fasteners establish the UL 2703 bonding contact between the module frame and the rail, completing the integrated grounding path from module to structure.
