How to Choose Solar Panels
1. Efficiency
Efficiency measures how much sunlight a panel converts to electricity. Higher efficiency means more power per square foot. TOPCon and HJT panels offer the highest efficiencies (22-24%).
2. Wattage
Residential panels typically range from 350W to 500W. Higher wattage means fewer panels needed, but individual panel cost is higher. The sweet spot for most installations is 400-460W.
3. Temperature Coefficient
Solar panels lose efficiency as they heat up. Look for panels with a temperature coefficient of -0.30%/°C or better. N-type panels generally perform better in heat.
4. Degradation Rate
Quality panels degrade 0.5-0.8% per year. After 25 years, they should still produce 80-87% of rated output. N-type TOPCon panels degrade slower (~0.4%/yr).
5. Warranty
Look for 25-year product warranty and 25-30 year performance warranty. Premium panels offer 30-year coverage at 87%+ output.
Panel Type Comparison
