At its core is Enphase's proprietary application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), enabling the unit to operate in either grid-tied or off-grid modes. Each IQ8HC microinverter is mounted directly behind a single solar module and converts that module's DC output into grid-quality AC at the source. By performing conversion at the module level instead of using a single string inverter, the IQ8HC isolates each module's performance, eliminates high-voltage DC on the roof, and enables flexible system design.
Module-Level DC-to-AC Conversion: Converts a single PV module's DC output to up to 384 VA of grid-quality AC, ensuring each module operates at its independent maximum power point even with shading or mismatched output.
