SKU APR-10K15V2-US | 15 kWh | 10 kW Continuous | 15 kW Peak | LFP | 120/240Vac | AC-Coupled | Type 3R Indoor/Outdoor | 15-Year / 60 MWh Warranty
The FranklinWH aPower 2 (SKU: APR-10K15V2-US) is the second-generation whole-home AC-coupled battery within the FranklinWH energy ecosystem — delivering 15 kWh of usable lithium iron phosphate (LFP) energy storage, 10 kW of continuous 120/240Vac output, and a 15 kW peak output for 10 seconds capable of starting a 5-ton central air conditioner (185A LRA surge) while simultaneously running other home circuits. As a fully AC-coupled system, the aPower 2 connects directly to a home's AC wiring and is compatible with any existing solar inverter — string inverters, microinverters, or hybrid inverters — without rewiring the PV array, making it the most flexible retrofit battery available for homes with existing solar. The aPower 2 is scalable to up to 15 units (225 kWh) per aGate energy management controller, supports charging from solar, grid, generator, and EV, and is backed by an industry-leading 15-year / 60 MWh throughput warranty — equivalent to over 10,000 full charge/discharge cycles — with an optional 30-year warranty extension available through Solar Insure.
Universal AC-Coupled Compatibility — Works with Any Solar Inverter: Because the aPower 2 operates entirely on the AC side of the home's electrical system, it can be paired with any existing solar installation — SolarEdge, Enphase, SMA, Fronius, string, or microinverter — without replacing the existing inverter or rewiring the PV array. This makes it the most straightforward retrofit battery option available today, reducing installation time and cost on existing solar homes compared to DC-coupled or inverter-replacement-required alternatives.
15 kW Peak / 185A LRA Surge — Starts the Hardest Loads: The aPower 2 delivers a 15 kW peak output for 10 seconds and is rated for 185A LRA (Locked Rotor Amperage) surge — the current spike a compressor motor draws at startup. This is sufficient to start a 5-ton (60,000 BTU) central air conditioner while simultaneously powering other essential circuits, giving the aPower 2 true whole-home backup capability that lighter-duty battery systems rated only at continuous output cannot match.
15-Year / 60 MWh Throughput Warranty — 10,000+ Cycles: FranklinWH's warranty covers the aPower 2 for 15 years or 60 MWh of guaranteed energy throughput — whichever is later — with a minimum 70% capacity retention guarantee at end of warranty. At 15 kWh per full cycle, 60 MWh represents over 4,000 complete cycles; at typical partial cycling (common in residential use), real-world cycle count exceeds 10,000. An optional Solar Insure 30-year warranty extension is also available, making the aPower 2 one of the longest-covered residential batteries on the market.
Scalable to 225 kWh — Up to 15 Units per aGate: A single aPower 2 handles whole-home backup for most households. But for homes with high energy consumption, EV charging, or off-grid requirements, up to 15 units can be stacked and managed by a single FranklinWH aGate energy management controller — scaling total system capacity from 15 kWh to 225 kWh with proportional continuous power output, all monitored and controlled through a single aGate and the FranklinWH App.
Quad-Source Charging — Solar, Grid, Generator & EV: The aPower 2 accepts charge from all four common home energy sources simultaneously — rooftop solar production, grid off-peak import, generator AC input, and bidirectional EV vehicle-to-home (V2H) discharge — allowing the aGate controller to optimize charge scheduling automatically based on electricity rate schedules, solar forecast, and backup reserve settings, reducing grid import costs while maximizing energy independence.
90% Round-Trip Efficiency + Type 3R Indoor/Outdoor Rated: A 90% AC round-trip efficiency ensures that nine out of every ten kilowatt-hours stored in the aPower 2 are recovered as usable AC power — minimizing conversion losses across the full solar-to-storage-to-load energy chain. The Type 3R enclosure rating (equivalent to NEMA 3R) qualifies the aPower 2 for both indoor and outdoor installation without an additional weatherproof housing, and the unit operates at full rated output from -4°F to 122°F (-20°C to 50°C), with derating to 5 kW between 122°F and 131°F (50°C–55°C).
The aPower 2 installs on the AC side of the home's main panel — connected to a dedicated branch circuit — and contains its own integrated bidirectional inverter, BMS, and thermal management system in a single enclosure. The FranklinWH aGate controller (sold separately, required for full system operation) connects to the home's electrical service and acts as the system's energy management brain, directing energy flow between solar, battery, grid, and loads based on configured operating modes.
Integrated Bidirectional Inverter — No External Inverter Required: Unlike DC-coupled batteries that require a separate or compatible hybrid inverter, the aPower 2 contains a complete bidirectional inverter inside its enclosure. This inverter converts AC power from the grid or solar to DC for battery charging, and converts stored DC back to 120/240Vac for home use during backup or self-consumption discharge — making the aPower 2 a fully self-contained AC storage unit that simply connects to existing AC wiring.
aGate Energy Management — Intelligent Multi-Source Coordination: The FranklinWH aGate controller monitors real-time solar production, battery state of charge, grid status, and home load demand — automatically routing energy along the optimal path based on the configured operating mode (backup priority, self-consumption, time-of-use optimization, or off-grid). When the grid fails, the aGate manages the automatic transfer to battery backup and coordinates all connected aPower 2 units to supply backup power to the whole home without manual intervention.
FranklinWH App — Real-Time Monitoring & Remote Control: The FranklinWH App (iOS and Android) provides real-time visibility into solar production, battery state of charge, home energy consumption, and grid import/export — plus remote configuration of backup reserve levels, charging schedules, and operating modes from anywhere. The app also delivers push notifications for grid outages, low battery alerts, and system events, ensuring homeowners always have full situational awareness of their energy system's status.
