Match the micro's continuous output to the panel: IQ8AC for panels in the 320-460W range, IQ8MC for 320-540W, IQ8HC for high-power 380-670W commercial modules. One micro per panel. The pairing table on each product page lists the compatible module wattage and voltage window — staying inside it protects both production and warranty.

Four pieces: IQ8 microinverters (one per panel), an IQ Combiner (the system's brain — aggregates the micros, houses the Envoy/IQ Gateway for monitoring, and provides the grid connection), the Q Cable trunk wiring, and the Enphase App for commissioning and monitoring. Battery backup adds IQ Batteries and an IQ System Controller for grid isolation.

With IQ8 microinverters and an IQ Battery plus System Controller, yes — the system islands and runs the house from battery and solar. IQ8's sunlight-backup capability can even run essential loads from solar alone in some configurations, but practical whole-home backup means adding IQ Battery capacity. Grid-tie-only systems without batteries shut down during outages like any grid-tie system.
