How It Works

This Upsolar PERC monocrystalline solar panel converts sunlight into direct current electricity through advanced photovoltaic cells. Each of the 120 half cut monocrystalline cells is designed to capture incoming light efficiently and minimise resistive losses across the cell surface. When the module is exposed to sunlight, photons strike the silicon lattice and create electron hole pairs, which are then driven by the internal electric field to generate current. The panel delivers up to 450 Wp at standard test conditions, with a Vmpp of 34.35 V and Impp of 13.1 A. Power is routed through an IP68 junction box with three bypass diodes and then carried by 4 mm² DC cables terminated in MC4 connectors. Once connected into a string, the combined DC power is fed to a compatible inverter, where it is converted into AC electricity for site loads or export to the grid. Throughout this process, the high efficiency cell design and careful thermal management maintain stable production over the wide operating temperature range from minus 40 to 90 degrees Celsius.

PERC monocrystalline cell conversion: PERC technology adds a passivated rear surface, which reflects unabsorbed light back into the cell for a second absorption opportunity. This design increases energy capture compared with conventional cells and supports the panel efficiency range from 20.57% to 21.49% across the series.

Half cut 120 cell layout: The 182 x 91 mm cells are cut into halves and arranged as 120 cells to reduce current and resistive losses. This layout supports better shade tolerance and slightly lowers operating temperature, which helps preserve power output over time.

Thermal and electrical optimisation: Temperature coefficients of minus 0.35 percent per degree Celsius for Pmax and minus 0.27 percent per degree Celsius for Voc limit performance loss as the panel warms up. The low positive power tolerance, 0 to plus 3 percent, ensures that installed modules meet or exceed the nameplate rating, which helps streamline array design and performance modelling.
