IQ8 — the proven residential value play

IQ9N — new installs with big modules

The IQ9N exists because residential modules blew past 500 W. With 16 A of continuous DC input (vs 14 A on the IQ8AC) and a 340–580 W pairing window, it swallows the current crop of high-output TOPCon and back-contact panels without forcing a DC/AC ratio you have to apologize for. The GaN stage runs cooler and posts 97.5% CEC / 97.8% peak efficiency, and it is still fully grid-forming for battery jobs. IQ9N-3P — 480V commercial, no transformer

The IQ9N-3P is a different animal: a three-phase commercial unit that lands natively on 480Y/277V wye services with no external transformer, using the QD 4-pin cable system and the IQ Gateway Commercial Pro. Thirty units per 20 A branch at 480V keeps balance-of-system costs down on larger roofs, and DOM-suffix units are US-made for projects chasing the ITC domestic content adder. Do not spec it on a house — it does not do split-phase 240V residential.

Expanding an existing IQ7/IQ8 system — the one-way door

Compatibility between generations is deliberately one-directional, per the Enphase IQ9N data sheet:
