MPN SHBUTYLM2 | Complete Kit: (1) Butyl Base with Pre-Applied Butyl Patch + (2) #14 Screws with Sealing Washers + (1) NXT Rail Clamp | Mill Finish Aluminum | Rafter & Deck Mount | Florida NOA Approved
The UniRac NXT STRONGHOLD Butyl Attachment Kit (MPN: SHBUTYLM2) is a complete, single-unit roof attachment kit for UniRac's NXT UMOUNT flush-mount solar racking system — delivering a fully flashless, sealant-free roof penetration solution that installs in a single step with no pre-drilling, no separate metal flashing, and no roofing sealant required. Each kit contains everything needed for one complete attachment point: one (1) mill-finish aluminum butyl base with factory-applied butyl patch pre-installed on the underside, two (2) #14 screws with sealing washers for rafter installation, and one (1) NXT rail clamp for direct rail connection. The pre-applied polybutylene (butyl) pad — a material trusted in the roofing industry for over 50 years — conforms to the roof surface and screw shanks under compression to form a self-sealing, watertight bond without any additional sealant or flashing components. The STRONGHOLD Butyl supports both rafter-mount (2 screws) and direct-to-deck installation (6 screws, 4 additional sold separately), integrates with UniRac's open-channel NXT UMOUNT rail system via the included rail clamp, and carries Florida Building Code approval for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ), NOA No. 24-0129.06 — the most demanding wind-uplift code standard in the U.S. residential solar market.
Flashless Installation — No Flashing, No Sealant, No Pre-Drilling: Traditional lag-bolt roof attachments require lifting or cutting shingles, positioning a metal flashing plate underneath, driving a lag bolt through the flashing into the rafter, and applying roofing sealant around the penetration — a multi-step process that introduces multiple opportunities for misalignment, incomplete sealing, and future leak paths. The STRONGHOLD Butyl eliminates every one of these steps: the pre-applied butyl pad seals the roof surface contact area before the screws are driven, and the sealing washers on the #14 screws seal each individual penetration as the screw is tightened — requiring no lifting of shingles, no flashing plate positioning, no sealant application, and no waiting for sealant to cure.
Polybutylene Butyl Pad — 50+ Years of Proven Roofing Reliability: The factory-applied butyl pad uses polybutylene (butyl) rubber — the same material used in roofing underlayments, EPDM membrane seam tape, and flashing butyl for over five decades. Butyl's key property for roof applications is its viscoelastic flow behavior: under compression it conforms to irregular surface textures, shingle granules, screw threads, and minor surface imperfections — filling every void in the contact area and creating a self-sealing bond that performs better over time as the material continues to flow and conform under the weight of the attachment. Unlike silicone or urethane sealants that cure rigid and can crack at the sealant-to-substrate bond line, butyl remains permanently flexible and self-healing throughout the roof system's service life.
Rafter Mount or Direct-to-Deck — Built-In Miss Recovery: For rafter installation, two of the six available screw holes are used — positioned to hit the rafter centerline. If the rafter is missed on the first two holes, the installer simply shifts to the next pair of holes and tries again; if the rafter is missed again, all six holes are used for a direct-to-deck attachment that is structurally rated and fully sealed without any exposed unfilled holes requiring remediation. This built-in miss-recovery workflow means no exposed penetrations ever need to be patched or sealed after the fact — eliminating the most common source of installer rework and latent leak callbacks on rafter-mount attachment systems.
Florida HVHZ Approved — NOA No. 24-0129.06: The STRONGHOLD Butyl carries a Notice of Acceptance (NOA) for the Florida Building Code's High Velocity Hurricane Zone — the most stringent wind uplift code standard applied to residential solar installations in the United States, covering Miami-Dade and Broward Counties where sustained hurricane-force winds regularly exceed 150+ mph design wind speeds. NOA approval requires independent testing laboratory validation of the complete attachment system's wind uplift resistance under FBC testing protocols — making the SHBUTYLM2 one of the very few flashless solar attachments approved for use in the most demanding U.S. wind climate zone.
Integrated NXT Rail Clamp — Complete Kit, One SKU Per Attachment Point: By including the NXT rail clamp in every kit, UniRac ensures that one SHBUTYLM2 unit represents one complete attachment point — eliminating the need to track and order the rail clamp as a separate line item, reduces the risk of under-ordering clamps relative to bases, and ensures the rail clamp used at every attachment point is the correct UL 2703 listed clamp for the NXT UMOUNT system's integrated grounding path. The open-slot NXT rail clamp design also enables wire management routing through the NXT UMOUNT rail channel at every attachment point without additional wire clips.
The STRONGHOLD Butyl installs in three steps — no pre-drilling, no flashing, no sealant application required.
Note — Deck Mount Configuration: For direct-to-deck installation (e.g., when rafter location cannot be confirmed), four additional #14 screws are required beyond the two included in the kit. Additional screws and butyl patches are sold separately by UniRac. The deck-mount configuration is fully structural-rated and sealed — not a fallback method, but an equally valid primary installation approach for applicable roof structures per UniRac's NXT UMOUNT Design & Engineering Guide.
