    Rosie Inverter/Charger System

    Installation Notes

    System Sizing

    Classic charge controller sizing follows these maximums:

    • Classic 150 (12V): 96A x 12V = 1,152W max array
    • Classic 150 (48V): 86A x 48V = 4,128W max array
    • Classic 200 (48V): 78A x 48V = 3,744W max array
    • Classic 250 (48V): 55A x 48V = 2,640W max array

    Wire Sizing

    • Classic DC terminal accepts #14 to #4 AWG wire (use THHN; #4 AWG welding cable will not easily fit).
    • Typical output wire: #6 AWG for Classic 250, #4 AWG for Classic 200/150.
    • AUX 1 and AUX 2 terminals accept up to #18 AWG.
    • NEC requires 1.56 times PV short-circuit current for PV input wire sizing.

    Minimum Input Voltage

    The Classic requires a minimum input voltage to start: multiply the highest expected battery voltage by 1.33. If PV input voltage is lower than this value, the Classic will not come out of resting mode. For a 12V system, the Classic 150 operates optimally with 70-90V input.

This protects the controller from over-voltage conditions in cold climates where panel Voc can spike above rated limits, without requiring the controller to shut down and lose production.

    2. Can the Classic charge controller handle wind and hydro sources?

    Yes. The Classic is the only major MPPT charge controller with dedicated wind and hydro MPPT tracking modes. It has several different tracking algorithms that can be fine-tuned for each input source. This makes it ideal for hybrid off-grid systems combining solar with micro-hydro or wind turbines.

    3. What is the E-Panel and how does it save installation time?

    The E-Panel is a pre-wired enclosure that consolidates all AC and DC overcurrent protection, disconnects, busbars, and shunt into a single compact chassis. By pre-wiring the AC bypass switch, generator/utility input disconnects, and inverter cables, the E-Panel eliminates hundreds of dollars in separate components and hours of installation labor. The inverter mounts on a hinged door, and the entire system can be installed by one person using the included mounting brackets.
